Epiphany claims sixth Jr. High Scholarship Challenge title

The Epiphany Nomads claimed their sixth Junior High Scholarship Challenge title Saturday at the Waverly Jr.-Sr. High School auditorium.

The Nomads, coached by Jackie Bowen, triumphed over Waverly in the championship match, after defeating Tioga Central in the preliminary round by just 10 points.

Other teams involved in the middle school version of the popular WATS-WAVR academic quiz were Athens, Troy, Sayre, Northeast Bradford and Towanda.

Saturday's triumph by Epiphany marked the second "threepeat" for the Nomads in the 13 year history of the Junior High Scholarship Challenge event.

Members of the winning team were: Matt Luther, Ryan Knowles, Alex Keene, Sarah Skerpon, John Lackard and Christine Talenti.

The Wolverines team was comprised of: Beitris McKeon, David Fagan, Leo Ayres, Larisa Pachuta, Ben Zwierlein and Marcus Beard. Their coach was Jennifer Joyce.

Previous winners of the Junior High Scholarship Challenge Were SRU, 1994; Tioga, 1995 and 2002; Epiphany, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2004 and 2005; Northeast Bradford, 1999 and 2002; Sayre, 2001; and Waverly, 2003
